2024 Fantasy Outlook
The first season of Benintendi's five-year, $75 million contract with the White Sox couldn't have gone much worse. Benintendi managed to hit just five home runs and post a .356 slugging percentage over 621 plate appearances, and a woeful 27 percent hard-hit rate confirms that he made some of the weakest contact in baseball. Among 133 qualifiers, Benintendi ranked 123rd with his .682 OPS. To make matters worse, his defense in left field went from below average to borderline unplayable. Whether it was a display of unwavering loyalty or simply a lack of other options, manager Pedro Grifol continued to run Benintendi out there every day and rarely had him batting lower than second. With the White Sox in rebuild mode and four more years left of his deal, Benintendi should continue to be an everyday guy. His high contact rate makes him a solid bet for average, but he has little else going for him. Read Past Outlooks

Lineup spot secure
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Wednesday that Benintendi's struggles through the first two months of the season are "not going to force me to overreact on anything," reports Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com.
ANALYSIS
The veteran outfielder remains Chicago's primary left fielder and has been receiving more days off of late, but he's still started seven of the past 10 games. Benintendi has been one of the worst full-time players in baseball and has accumulated minus-1.7 fWAR in 2024, which is the worst mark in MLB. He has a .189/.226/.265 slash line with just eight extra-base hits in 195 plate appearances. Benintendi also has three years and $49.3 million left on his contract after this season, so there likely won't be any interest from other clubs.

Benintendi hit .320 for the Royals before he was shipped to the Yankees at the trade deadline, but he struggled to a .254 average with New York and missed the final month of the season with a broken wrist. He cashed in with a five-year, $75 million contract with the White Sox and should have an everyday role in the corner outfield. Despite the high batting average last year, the veteran outfielder's numbers are underwhelming, as he finished with five home runs, 51 RBI, 54 runs and eight stolen bases in 126 contests. He showcased minimal power and had a .095 ISO, which is the lowest of his career by a significant margin, though he cut his strikeout rate to a career-best 14.1 percent. The poor power and speed production leave Benintendi with a low ceiling, even if he's able to hit around .300 again in 2023.
