Lachie Whitfield

Closes season with 34 disposals
MGreater Western Sydney Giants
September 4, 2021
Whitfield logged 34 disposals (22 kicks, 12 handballs) and made five marks during Friday's 103-68 loss to Geelong.
ANALYSIS
Whitfield's production often varied throughout the season depending on if he played in the midfield or on the back line, but he ends 2021 by leading the Giants in disposals during a losing effort. With a healthier lineup from start to finish, Whitfield could be even better in 2022.

Game-high 35 disposals, 10 marks
MGreater Western Sydney Giants
July 25, 2021
Whitfield pulled in 35 disposals, 10 marks, two tackles and clearances each and a single goal assist Sunday as GWS outran Essendon 66-53 at Metricon Stadium.
ANALYSIS
Whitfield nabbed season-highs for kicks (25) and disposals and fell one mark short of match leaders and teammates Isaac Cumming and Sam Taylor on Saturday, leaving the GWS midfielder to finish with his best fantasy output of 2021 (132 points). It was a much-needed boost in confidence for the 27 year-old, who in his two previous appearances had combined for just 113 points on 23 disposals, seven marks, six tackles, four clearances and two goals.

Concussion
July 20, 2021
Whitfield (concussion) is listed as a test to return in Round 19 against Essendon, according to Head of Medical Cullan Ball. "He hasn't had any setbacks and if he continues in this manner he'll be cleared to take on the Bombers."
ANALYSIS
Whitfield can put up big numbers in defense or in the midfield but a concussion has recently limited his participation. A successful week of training should see him back once again.
Out for Round 18

Concussion
July 14, 2021
Whitfield will miss Round 18 due to a concussion.
ANALYSIS
Whitfield has had migraine issues in the past, so his recovery will be monitored carefully while he waits out the league's concussion protocol. With some of the other Giants stars in good shape, there are other options to pick from on his team.
Exits with suspected concussion

Concussion
July 10, 2021
Whitfield (concussion) was removed from Sunday's match versus Gold Coast.
ANALYSIS
Whitfield had one major, four disposals and a mark prior to being ruled out after the second quarter. If this ends up being more than a precautionary substitution, he will likely be sidelined for a minimum of 12 days while in the concussion protocol. It's unclear if he'll miss time beyond that.
Active in loss
MGreater Western Sydney Giants
June 27, 2021
Whitfield logged 32 disposals (20 kicks, 12 handballs) to go with six marks taken and six tackles made during Sunday's 90-72 loss to Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
A surprise loss to the struggling Hawks didn't dampen Whitfield's performance with a best on ground showing even if the goals didn't follow. He's now scored 119 or more points in four of the last five games and may just be a safer bet than Toby Greene when looking for high-end fantasy value on this team.
