Taking on Nate Diaz in UFC 262
WelterweightUFC
March 30, 2021
Edwards will fight Nate Diaz in the co-main event of UFC 262 on May 15 in Houston, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Birmingham native will take part in a historic fight, as his battle with Diaz will be the first five-round non-title co-main event in UFC history. He is coming off a no-contest against Belal Muhammad on March 13 due to an accidental eye poke by Edwards in the second round. However, before that no-contest, Edwards was riding a eight-fight win streak dating back to 2015.
No contest in return from layoff
WelterweightUFC
March 13, 2021
Edwards and Belal Muhammad fought to a no contest (accidental eye poke) at 0:18 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The eye poke from Edwards was clearly an accident, but that won't make either he or Muhammad feel any better about the situation. Edwards was fighting for the first time since July 2019, while Muhammad was competing in his first main event with the UFC. It doesn't mean anything now, but Edwards looked excellent in Round 1 despite the long layoff. Hopefully the company takes care of both men following an unfortunate situation for all parties involved.
Set to face Belal Muhammad
WelterweightUFC
February 18, 2021
Edwards will now take on Belal Muhammad on the UFC's March 13 card, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Edwards' scheduled fight versus Khamzat Chimaev dated back to last December but was called off on a number of occasions for one reason or another. It will proceed this time around without Chimaev, with Muhammad taking his place on somewhat short notice. Muhammad enters the fight on a four-bout winning streak, while Edwards has emerged victorious in his last eight.

WelterweightUFC
February 11, 2021
Edwards will need a new opponent after Chimaev was forced to withdraw due to ongoing physical issues related to his previous COVID-19 diagnosis, Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This marked the third time that Edwards fight versus Chimaev, originally scheduled for early December, has fallen through. However, Edwards is slated to book a new opponent this time around. His new opponent hasn't been announced at this point.
Chimaev fight rebooked for March
WelterweightUFC
January 15, 2021
Edwards is scheduled to face Khamzat Chimaev (illness) in a welterweight fight at the UFC's March 13 event, Damon Martin and Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com report.
ANALYSIS
Edwards (18-3-0) and Chimaev (9-0-0) were initially slated to meet up Dec. 19 in Las Vegas, but the fight was nixed after Edwards tested positive for COVID-19. The UFC moved the matchup to Jan. 20, but Chimaev then contracted the coronavirus, resulting in the fight being called off again. With both welterweights having seemingly made strong recoveries from their respective battles with the virus, the long-awaited bout should finally be held in March. Edwards carries an eight-fight winning streak into the showdown.
