Mason took six carries for 36 yards and caught his only target for 12 yards in Sunday's 21-20 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
MVP hopeful Christian McCaffrey (calf) was rested Week 18, so primary backup Elijah Mitchell started Sunday's tilt. Mason wound up logging 27 snaps on offense (44 percent) to Mitchell's 32 (52 percent). While both tailbacks nearly split McCaffrey's playing time Sunday, Mitchell (14-52-1) wound up having more plays executed for him and also nabbed the only touchdown the backfield duo would produce in the loss. Mason wraps up the 2023 campaign with numbers (40-206-3) similar to his rookie year (43-258-1) while also serving as one of the 49ers' top coverage men on special teams.

Everyone agrees that Lamar Jackson needs to be blitzed, but just how much pressure should the Chiefs bring this Sunday?
Odell Beckham didn't play much in the divisional round, with Baltimore instead leaning on Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor alongside No. 1 receiver Zay Flowers.
Latest Fantasy Rumors
May see solid Week 18 workload
Mason could be in line for extended playing time in the 49ers' Week 18 game against the Rams as a result of Christian McCaffrey's absence due to a calf strain, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mason has logged only 34 carries this season but has put them to good use, averaging 5.0 yards per tote and scoring three rushing touchdowns along the way. While he's typically no better than third on the depth chart and top reserve back Elijah Mitchell was impressive while spelling McCaffrey for an extended stretch in the Week 17 win over the Commanders, Mitchell has an extensive injury history that would make it likely head coach Kyle Shanahan takes some measure of caution with him in the meaningless finale. As a result, Mason, who's averaged at least 5.0 yards per carry in three of the four games in which he's seen at least four rush attempts, could be called on for a solid workload.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Mason fought his way onto the 49ers' 53-man roster last preseason and suited up for 19 of the team's 20 games (including playoffs). The undrafted rookie spent most of the year on special teams, but he was able to get some run as a backup in the second half of the schedule. Mason performed particularly well over a three-game stretch from Weeks 13-15, when he accrued 171 rushing yards on just 23 attempts. The Georgia Tech product should return as San Francisco's third running back in 2023 behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell.
